The Monzalvo family moved to the Atlanta area more than 35 years ago. For years, Alfredo Monzalvo operated a collision business on Buford Highway. In 2010, his son Sergio was able to continue that legacy by opening CARSTAR Universal Body Shop near the I-285 overpass.
“My earliest memory of Buford Highway was going to my father’s shop, helping around, sweeping the floors, pretending to work on cars,” Sergio recalled.
He says his father worked for the Ford Motor Company in Mexico for many years and Alfredo continues to use his extensive knowledge to support the Doraville-based business.
A Hero of the Highway, Sergio remembers when Buford Highway felt ‘time stamped’, but says he’s seeing increasing changes along the corridor.
“I don’t want the essence to disappear, I want the mutli-culturalism to stay so we can embrace that change, and grow with it,” Sergio said.
